Conducting Appraisals
As the building block of revalidation, appraisal is crucial to career
development. Course members will learn how to carefully prepare and
negotiate effective appraisal interviews when both appraising and being
appraised.
Duration: Half day
Methods: Interactive lecture and demonstration supported by visual and auditory aids.
Suitable for: Those doctors who need to conduct appraisal interviews as part of their job plan and those doctors who need to complete appraisals as part of their professional development and to enable revalidation.
Objectives: Attendees will be introduced to the rationale for regular appraisals as an effective tool for continuing professional development and performance management. They will spend time looking at current appraisal models including 360 degree appraisal (Multi-source feedback) and SPRAT (Sheffield peer rating assessment tool). They will learn how to develop and maintain an appraisal folder, to prepare thoroughly for appraisal and how to conduct themselves at the interview.
