Teaching and Coaching Skills
Attendees will discover the different ways in which people learn and how to
design teaching sessions to maximise comprehension and retention. Time
will be spent looking at learning styles, audio visual aids, delivery techniques
and one to one coaching.
Duration: Half-Day
Methods: Interactive lecture and demonstration supported by visual and auditory aids. Individual self-assessment questionnaires and reflective exercises.
Suitable for: All doctors who regularly conduct teaching sessions, either one to one or to groups, as part of their job.
Objectives: Course members will be introduced to the different ways in which people learn and how to tailor teaching sessions to best meet the needs of the different learning styles. Time will be spent looking at group presentation skills and the structure of teaching sessions. Also, we will look at the effectiveness of pre-course preparation, comprehension checks and post-course follow up in enhancing the learning experience. Various teaching roles will be considered: coaching, mentoring, didactic and interactive lecture.
